Após grande imbróglio, com a Globo e o grupo de canais de TV fechada (SPORTV e Premiere) e a Conmebol, a emissora cancelou o contrato que tinha até 2022. Com isto, a emissora deu abertura para que outros canais entrassem no Brasil para fazer as transmissões. Assim, em TV aberta, o SBT se deu bem e assinou com a entidade para transmissão de jogos em canal aberto. Já em canal fechado, a BAND ficou com os direitos, faturando também, os direitos da Copa Sul-Americana. O SBT poderá transmitir até duas partidas por semana, uma nacional e uma regional.
Entretanto, este ano, a forma de exibição será diferente e inédita no Brasil. Em consórcio com a entidade e outras empresas, o grupo vai montar um canal de pay-per-view para oferecer as partidas que não teriam exibição no país até então. Tudo já começa com esta partida.

História da Libertadores da América
Portanto, até a atual edição da Libertadores da América de 2021, aconteceram 61 edições da competição. Mas, o atual campeão é o PALMEIRAS, que em uma final única (pela SEGUNDA vez na história, A PRIMEIRA SEM PÚBLICO), venceu nos últimos minutos o SANTOS.
Contudo, os maiores campeões da competição são argentinos. Todavia, o Independiente tem 7 títulos e o tradicional Boca Júniors tem 6 títulos. O Peñarol vem em seguida com 5 títulos e o River Plate com 4. Entre os brasileiros, São Paulo, Grêmio e Santos têm três títulos cada.
Após o imbróglio das transmissões da competição para o Brasil, outra grande questão é a do público. A Conmebol decidiu criar seu próprio canal para fazer as transmissões da Libertadores. A FOX continua sua parceria para o Brasil. Já o SBT ainda não confirmou se, como em 2020, fará também as transmissões em 2021.
